History of the Parent Nursery Schools in Hayward: For several decades there have been three parent co-operative preschools in Hayward. Sunset Parent Nursery School, Tennyson Parent Nursery School and Hayward Parent Nursery School. All three had been operating under the umbrella of the Parent Education Department of the local adult school. Due to recent changes the school district and adult school have made because of the state budget crisis, we have all been affected. The first one affected was Sunset Parent Nursery School when they were forced to relocate from their long time home to another school site. They operated one year at the new site and then the director decided to retire so they closed their doors. The second affected was the Tennyson Parent Nursery School when they were cut from the adult school programs due to low enrollment. Unfortunately they were not in the position at that time to start again as a private co-op. The last one affected was ourselves, the Hayward Parent Nursery School. We were doing great with good enrollment but the school district made a huge cut from the adult school's budget and they were forced to let go of most of their programs. Now we have decided to rent from Tennyson Parent Nursery School as our temporary home while we look for new permanent home for our school. This is beneficial for both us and TPNS as we can better afford it and we can help them get their school prepared to be licensed when we move on, therefore helping Hayward families by preserving two parent co-op preschools!
